Japanese culture is not only just tea ceremony and calligraphy, but there's also a lot of fun activities and games that maybe most foreigners don't get a chance to get involved with! We're here to make sure that they enjoy Japanese life to the fullest, and with our friends at LeoPalace, we organized an event which showcases two such fun parts of Japanese culture. Karuta and Fukuwarai!
Karuta, which has become fairly popular to the manga/anime/movie series "Chihayafuru", is a card game where people have to listen to a phrase in Japanese and be the first to touch the card. Our rules weren't as strict as official karuta tournaments, but none the same our students fought with their full power to collect all the cards! The games can be pretty intense, as our students quickly discovered!
After that, we moved on to Fukuwarai! In this activity people start with a blank face, and then put the parts of the face on. The trick is that the person putting on the facial features wears a mask and can't see anything, and the rest of the team gives guidance on what to use and where to put it! The results can be rather amusing, as one would expect.
